Griffith today has around 27,000 inhabitants, coming from all over the world, but in the twentieth century it
welcomed many Italian migrants in particular, attracted by agricultural work in what is defined as the Australian
food bowl. Even today, over half of the inhabitants, have Italian origins and every year for a week the Italian
community celebrates with all the others in A Taste Of Italy Griffith, a kaleidoscope of gastronomic and cultural
events that attract thousands of visitors to the area.
Salvatore Trimboli, known as Sam, is the owner of the grocery store La Piccola Grosseria and says he is enthusiastic
about the opportunity to share the Italian traditions and cultural richness of Griffith in what he calls one of the
weeks of the year he loves most."There is a huge range of Italian events and experiences to enjoy," Sam tells SBS
Italian, "long lunches, cooking lessons, walking tours, events, winery experiences, live music, a festival Italian
and a cured meats festival that is already sold out".
